I started volunteering for the Obama Campaign again today. I have a lot of social anxiety issues I have to overcome in order to work on a campaign so it speaks volumes about my belief in Senator Obama’s campaign that I would wander so far from my comfort zone in order to help take his presidency from a hope to a reality. I would rather have hid under the couch today than wander a room and introduce myself to people and network.
I’ve gained a lot of weigh so I stuck myself to the wall instead.
I’m good at canvassing, calling people on the phone, writing letters to the editor, and a host of other things to advance an objective but I cannot idly chatter with people I do not know for the sake of idly chattering. If I start to do that its usually a precursor to finding a way to run into traffic and end it.
One thing that I noticed while working at the campaign is that there is an abundance of affinity groups supporting Obama, and conceivably groups that are supporting McCain. There were “Your State Here” for Obama (I really wanted Idaho), Professions for Obama, Hobbies for Obama, and Ethnic Groups for Obama. I belong to none of these groups.
I wanted Idaho for Obama because I really enjoy a good pun and if I cannot have a good pun I’d like a childish one. I realized however that I needed my own affinity group and my own shirt so I have been mulling exactly which shirts I would be feasibly able to wear:
10. People who add the letter u into words like color and flavour for Obama
9. Potential Virgin Sacrifices for Obama
8. Socially Awkward Nerds for Obama
7. Slow Fat Kids for Obama
6. “Those People” for Obama
5. “Yes We Can Haz Cheeseburger” LOL Cats for Obama
4. People who want to Brain Lany Davis for Obama
3. People who have to look to tell their left from their right for Obama
2. People Ignorant of Time Zones for Obama
And my favorite, and probably the one I’ll make:
1. That Kid You Warned Your Kids About For Obama
Simply hilarious... Enjoy volunteering!

Good for you--getting involved in things that are out of your comfort zone shows great courage and dedication. I would be way better at the people part of it and would HATE the phone calling.
